Usability Testing

Usabillia remote usability testing

I have found that as a designer, you need to check your work, and see what works and what does not work. As I read books on web designing, I came across “Don’t Make Me Think”. A book that discusses about usability testing for websites.

Usabillia is a web site that allows you to run a usability testing. This article will discuss it’s usefulness.

User experience

When running a website, it is important to have revenant information, but it is also important to have a functional website, with key areas identified for special purposes. User experience is a key factor in development of a website. It is the user that within a five second time frame will instantly decide to stay on the site or not.

This is what makes it critical to identify areas of importance within the website. If you open the Internet browser, the first 600 px are the important area of real estate of your website. What will you have there?

One way is to run a usability test to find out what will work and what will not.

Usability

    What is usability mean?

Plain and simple, if something is usable. For example, a screw driver or a hammer is usable for building or repairing.

Usability in the terms of a website; well, you need to make sure that the information your are giving to your users is usable information, ease to use, and navigate.

Web Page

If you build it they would come....

Well, that can be true, but the next question is can you keep them. Usability testing can determine the success of that question.

A web page is a part of the website. Nowadays, these web pages are part of a theme. When testing the Home web page, it is critical to have a winning design. The Home web page is the front door for your customers, and should be informative, welcoming, and easy to navigate.

To test all this, we need to make sure that we run some tests. Hence, usability testing.

Usability test

To test a website’s usability, you need to see if you can easily navigate through the site. If you read “Don’t Make Me Think”, it goes in great details on this particular subject.

Based on this book, I believe a lot of theme type website designs, have been design with this in mind. It discusses what works and does not. The do’s and don’ts. What steps were taken to conclude this findings. I will not include to much details other then the testing that took place, and why Usabilia came about.

Usability test can determine if your design is usable for the user. You can ask questions and get real time answer if live person is with you, but in the event that you don’t you some one or some people to take the test, you can always run a remote usability testing.

Remote usability testing

Well, not unless you have an able body and willing to take the test in person, let alone the facilities, you will want to consider remote usability testing.

Usability tool

Usabillia is the website that you will need to perform remote testing. It has a way to send it to twitter and facebook, or a simple email to colleagues. There are many features to mention, and if you are creative, I am sure that you can find ways to manipulate the data collected.

Feedback tool

Usabillia does have something that is very good, and that is to provide feedback as a tool. So not only can you use it for usability testing, but  as a feedback tool.

Usability USA

If you are looking to run some usability test in the USA,  It will be pretty difficult to find someone. Alone, the author of “Don’t Make Me Think” was gracious enough to provide some insight for website designing. But usability testing can go into market techniques. You have a new drawing, you can scan it, and test it as well. See where people focus on.

Website usability

Website usability in the USA is a must, and probably so in the rest of the world. U.S. have very little patience and time, so they don’t want to think to much about how things works. Simplified design with a little nice drawings will go a long way. Keeping navigation simple and to the minimum with easy search will greatly keep your user in for a long time.

Website feedback

As everyone else I would like to here from you and your feedback. Please send email to info@simple-web-consulting.com
